The story starts to accelerate now. I have been sharing some relational patterns shaping my family and work over time that unfolded into physical events in ways that do not fit with scientific materialism’s linear cause-effect principles. There is a good alternative New Science explanation that tunes in with ancient spiritual wisdom too, which I am progressively explaining. If you stay with this sequential posting process you’ll discover (or have affirmed if you already are beyond materialism) a whole new way of seeing life.
15 – “What do you see?”
As a trainee General Medical Practitioner in the late 1970s, having left London and moved to Devon, I was delighted to be based in an edge of Dartmoor large village growing rapidly into a 3000 population town. I had been asked to visit an elderly man living in a bungalow in the centre of town up a steep drive off the main Fore Street. As I parked, to my surprise there in the middle of town, hidden from view from the road, was a field with a peacefully grazing horse. I could see no houses through the mature trees that bordered this field. It was one of those magical moments of transportation as if to a different world. Then another surprise occurred. I have mentioned before this inner heart ‘hearing’ of a moment of knowledge as if from somewhere beyond this local world. It happened again there. I ‘heard’ a question, “Do you want that field?”
Now as a seeker after truth, who had settled from a wide exploration of spiritualities into a non-exclusive Celtic Christian approach to life, I responded in my heart, “Well, God, I have no need for that field, but if you want it then I will follow you.” That was simply where the mystical transaction ended. I made my medical call, and life carried on.
The point I want to make by telling of this event (and its subsequently unfolding impact) is that time is a more fundamental reality than matter when participating in life as a process. The background life process continues unseen. It shapes material events by hidden relational patterns that are the probability distributions influencing the way material events subsequently unfold. (This is New Science quantum field theory in lived reality.) By making that response in my heart, a creative relational bond had been made with a wider wholeness than the locality I was standing in. I had entered a process pattern beyond local space and time. Whatever we see with our physical eyes in the physical world is all in a state of transition even while it seems constant or peacefully still. There is change ongoing probabilistically at every level of its core essence. That is ‘movement’.
How the relational pattern unfolded
My wife Marian, also a doctor, and I had been attending a local Pentecostal Church where congregants could receive prayer for healing, and where the mystical ‘gifts of the Spirit’ were manifesting this same background ‘movement of the Holy Spirit’ through people’s lives. We became interested in the relationship between the Christian model of healing and the medical model. We were co-opted by the Board of the Pentecostal Churches of the British Isles to be their Observers on the Churches’ Council for Health and Healing, let by Bishop Morris Maddocks in London. Along the informative way of that association, we developed the idea that the church needed a ‘spiritual intensive care unit’ for people to stay for a week or two while receiving ministry outside their usual stressful settings. The reason was that we were seeing how relational patterns were stressing people into a felt need for prayer. We reasoned that inner strengthening in a ministry form acceptable to them by the church (not us) might be found in such a retreat-type setting.
We found a suitable place going for auction. The figures sound ridiculous now, but at the time they were relatively quite large. Our maximum offer was £50,000, but just before the auction someone mentioned that a good sized property was on the market in the middle of Ivybridge. We visited South Highlands, and on walking through the door both knew intuitively in an instant that this was the right place. But its asking price was £80,000. We had heard that another Christian family had thought this could be a place of ministry and retreat, so I called them to ask to meet to consider joint purchase. There was a stunned silence on the other end of the phone when I mentioned the auction offer we were able to make. The guy said shakily, “That’s amazing. We saw the place and said, ‘Well God, we think it’s right, but if you want this place you’ll need to bring along someone who has £50,000.'”
The story of how this unfolded is told more fully in my book, Building Bridges of Grace: The strength and resilience of an emotionally-intelligent Church, available through my site https:relatedness.net/shop. South Highlands had a large garden and a ‘paddock’ in the middle of Ivybridge. As we explored the house and grounds, wondering how it might work out in practice, I stood in the middle of the paddock and realised, with a sense of awesome shock, that this was the field I had seen from that bungalow I had visited several weeks before.
It was as if the physical environment, myself included as part of it, became suddenly more fully 4D and connected into a higher patterning of events. That sense of prophetic knowledge being fulfilled brought with it a sense of belonging, here, now, in this tufty grass, with Marian.
The way events transpired over the next forty years and more meant that, whenever we might be tempted to doubt the truth of God’s living patterning, we simply have to look at the walls of the house around us, and the trees that surround the paddock, and doubt disappears. Time and movement is more substantial than matter in the higher patterning of Life.
